setting lora.hop_limit often takes multiple attempts

CLI version: 2.7.7
test node hardware: Xaio ESP32-S3
firmware version of node: 2.7.15

I've found for instance that I often have to run the command multiple times for changes to stick:
meshtastic --set lora.hop_limit 4

The stickiness issue is not limited to --set lora.hop_limit. network.ipv4Config.ip often takes several tries.
